Far From Home
A rickety carriage ride, a pair of snow white siblings and a Moogle. Without knowing it, you all started the same way. This is the beginning of your story, all of you, during your first trip to the City State that would change your lives.
Whether it be under the lush canopies of the Shroud, through the busy thoroughfares of Ul'Dah or amongst the whispering sea winds of Limsa Lominsa, each one welcomes you, feels like home.
With only the weapon you scampered away with, the clothes on your backs, and an inexplicable feeling of purpose - You have arrived.

Date: 2018-04-26 08:57 pm (UTC)She had only been in Gridania for four months or so but, thanks to her mother's recommendation and her success with the Lancer's Guild she had been granted the rare permission to hunt for skins within the Shroud.
Making her way towards the Leatherworking Guild, she nods at some of the shop-keeps and citizens, people who were slowly becoming more and more familiar to her.
A Lala’s Gotta Eat
Date: 2018-04-27 12:03 am (UTC)“But you’re a conjurer?”
“Conjurers wear boots and gloves like anybody else, Ma’am.”
“Alright, fine, how’s about this?” She finally relents. Though not unconditionally: “If you can prepare me a stack of ten proper leather rolls, I’ll grant you membership in the guild. As for how someone such as yourself will go about gathering said skins for tanning, I leave that-” he’s already figured it out.
“You there!” Connor is very, very quick to throw himself at the Mi’qote woman bearing an arm full of whatever those are. “I’ll pay you with a week’s healing services for half those skins, and I’ll return half the leftover cured leather for the full stack.” So he gives ten to the guild, keeps half the remainder to work and sell, and gives the last bit back to the lancer. Profits for everyone and all he’s spending is labour!

Date: 2018-04-27 08:34 pm (UTC)"I'm sorry but these have already been paid for in advance by the Guild, I would like to help, especially with such a generous trade but it would do my reputation here no good if I handed them over."
She shifts from foot to foot, ears twitching, she could really use that healing though...
"If...you really need the skins...I could have the amount you need by this time tomorrow. If you're willing to wait a bit that is."

Date: 2018-04-27 11:54 pm (UTC)“Alright.” Nooooo, “that sounds fair.” It’s fair but it sucks. “If you could deliver them to the Stillglade- wait, no.” He can see how many skins she has, and it’s good for his needs but- heavy. So, so heavy. “Deliver then here tomorrow afternoon. My name is Connor, of the Conjurer’s guild, but if all goes well I should be adding Atelier Fen-Yll to that soon enough.”
And then he can make some money. Not a lot, he doesn’t need a lot. Just. Some. Enough. He needs enough.
He’s so sick of bread, water, and berries.
But Connor, bread and water are dope
Date: 2018-04-28 02:14 am (UTC)---
The next day was much like the day previous, she came back to Gridania on chocobo, a sash full of animal skins slung about her person. There was one difference in the and that was that she was limping rather badly and now had a bleeding gash across her face.
Grumbling to herself as she gingerly makes her way to Leatherworking Guild, it was a bloody good job she was getting some free healing out of this, sodding Trents.
Is this... a Feel?
Date: 2018-04-28 05:58 pm (UTC)So he's ready for some hard work today and a change of pace when, by the bridge leading to the Leatherworker's guild, he sees the same peony-pink Mi'wote woman- limping? Oh, that knocks some of the smugness right out of him.
Should have offered to go with her.
"Miss Sunrise!" Be cool, Connor, be cool. People get hurt and that's just how things are, even if they only got hurt because they were doing something you asked of them and weren't even offering gil for. Because you don't have any gil. Because you took up residence with people who have no use for money. You fool. "I- uh, see you've had a productive morning!" What? " And wounds." Idiot. "You're bleeding- your head is bleeding. Perhaps come this way and sit down?" He means towards one of the benches resting in the shade of the city trees.
While she does that, he has to get his gear sorted: an awl and hammer are useless right now, he needs his cane which is wrapped up in his bag along with his robe and his gloves and he's a dumb little boy and a bad healer for sending a hunter off into the woods alone.
"Did something happen in the forest? Perhaps I should go with you next time." But first he needs to fix this.
Congrats Connor, you just experienced an Emotion
Date: 2018-04-28 11:09 pm (UTC)"It was business as usual, I'd just grabbed the last skin when a group of Ixali decide to come traipsing through the area heading to Lifemend Stump. I went to hide but the tree I'd decided to hide behind turned out to be a trent."
She shrugs the sash holding the skins off of herself and onto the seat next to her. The Miqo'te wasn't particularly bothered by the injuries, she'd had worse from training, she was more annoyed at being caught off-guard by a tree.
" I'll admit, I didn't expect to be making use of your services so soon, but I'm certainly grateful, I'll need to head to Wood Wailers and let them know what happened."

Date: 2018-04-30 07:03 am (UTC)"I shouldn't have to say as much to a hunter affiliated with the Lancer's guild, but I hope your hunting grounds aren't too close to the North Shroud." Fallgourd Float was arguably too far from Gridania to be safe. It was ugly terrain and the forest had a bad... everything, to it. "And you didn't see anyone else out in that area, did you? No one would could get hurt if they cross paths with the beastmen?" Because that- oh, he hopes it doesn't come to that.
"Please, tell me everything you remember seeing." And as he urges her, Connor climbs up on the bench and, with a brief pause to make sure she's willing to accept his help, gently touches his fingers to the front and back of her head. The Aether he calls upon is warm and soothing, like a balming liquid that parts her hair and dips around her sensitive Mi'qote ears. It's just a grazed head wound, he can see that now, but it could have easily been much worse. Her eyes, her skull, her ears, any part of her could have been badly maimed by the angry treant.
"After this, I'll walk with you to the Wood Wailers. I don't know if they'll do anything without proof of where you saw them, but two voices are better than one." And besides, he said he'd offer his services to her for the hunting goods that put her in this mess. He might as well start now, at least as soon as he's done with her leg.
How stupid of him, thinking he could requisition things from the forest without consequences.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have ordered you off into the woods by yourself. I wasn't even offering you gil."

Date: 2018-04-30 03:54 pm (UTC)Q'uila isn't going to say anything about her hunting grounds because they are absolutely near Fallguard Float and that she was absolutely assigned that area on purpose. "Lucking I didn't see or hear anyone, and I told the Wood Wailers when I grabbed my Chocobo so at least some of them know."
She sighs as Connor's magic works its, well, magic, ears flicking in response to the sensation. "That would be most helpful...A lot of them still don't take me seriously." Damn Gridanians, just because she was a Sunseeker Hunter didn't mean she was going to anger the forest Spirits. She wasn't stupid.
Omg omg omg- wait.
Date: 2018-05-01 07:31 pm (UTC)“Having them this close to the city though,” he emphasizes, still deeply troubled. “I know there are frequent reports of them near Hyrstmill, but the wailers patrol so often that way that they shouldn’t be bold enough to attack anyone. Where were you exactly?”
Because Treants. Treants are reasonably common in the shroud but putting Ixal so close to the Hawthorne hut would be a huge security scare that close to the Garleans. But she wouldn’t have been out near Quarrymill, was she? What animals was she hunting because that would help him-?
“Q’uila,” He checks, and these kills are fresh. The skins are clean but the fur is still there, the pelts, the marks. Wolf skins? Wild dogs. Wild- wait, didn’t the Ixal keep dogs? Where was a place where the best thing to hunt for skins were ixali war dogs, nearby to Treants? ”Q’uila.”
He folds his arms, and even if he has to look up at her, the sass is real.
“Were you in the North Shroud logging grounds, Q’uila?” One of the... most dangerous parts of the Shroud? “Were you in the North Shroud alone, Q’uila?”
:3c
Date: 2018-05-03 09:14 pm (UTC)She watches Connor puzzling through out of the corner of her eye, resolutely stuffing her face when her asked her about the logging stands, tail bristling slightly. She was good at hunting, some would even say excellent at it. She knew what she was doing and it ranked to have someone questioning her skills. Again.
"I wasn't in the logging grounds. One of my assigned areas lies just outside it..."
Somebody (not) a liar~!
Date: 2018-05-04 04:55 am (UTC)But confronting and scolding her about it anymore than he already has won't solve anything. It might make him feel better, but then he'll lose out on this potential contact. Bad as he is at business, this is a mistake he won't make.
"If that's your area then that's your area," he allows, though it doesn't sit well with him. "But you still shouldn't go alone, not if you can help it. Between the Ixal, the treants, the wandering spirits and the roaming Dullahan knights, it might be worth pestering the authorities to know why they sent you to such a dangerous territory to begin with." And wasn't that exactly the condition of this little deal of theirs?
So he settles down on the bench, even kicking his feet a little where they're dangling, and he takes a healthy chomp out of the salty little sandwich he has now. Eating means chewing and chewing means thinking. Thinking means not being a colossal ass about this.
"Guess it's a good thing you have a conjurer to follow you around for a week," he says with a sudden smile. "I'll have plenty of time to work on those skins tonight and they'll need at least a day or two to dry before I can make anything with them. In the meantime, you can decide where we go, oh fearless leader."
Connor sure as hell isn't going to decide where she hunts, but he's not going to let her get smacked around by a bunch of treants either.
Q'uila only tells the truth always
Date: 2018-05-05 09:54 pm (UTC)Q'uila frowns at Connor. "That wasn't our deal...What are you looking for in exchange for coming with me?"
y u no want heals?
Date: 2018-05-08 05:14 am (UTC)But then she frowns at him, and it's his turn to frown back.
"Yes it was?" He says, confused. "I offered you my services for a week, and the surplus leather once I finished with the skins." Which is a fair bit of work all around on his end, but he got what he wanted out of it: "I didn't join the leatherworkers to rake in buckets of gil, just a little bit of spending money. I'm still technically considered an adventurer, not a Gridanian, so if I don't take guildleves or find some other job, there's no money for me to spend on myself." Upgrades to his gear, better food, and so on. His personal posessions are currently limited to the set of tools shoved in his bag.
"Healers are more useful when we're actually out there with fighters in the fray- if from a safe distance back." However... "But if you'd rather come limping back for the next six days and spare me the running around, I guess I can't complain!"

Date: 2018-04-30 01:40 pm (UTC)They'd been on the same carriage into the city, and had kept seeing each other around the city after Miounne asked them both to help out around the inn. Pinya would also work behind the bar at the Carline Canopy, learning more about the locale, and Q'uila was very knowledgeable about geography. They's had a couple of conversations already about where the best place to cultivate coffee plants would be, and the effects the soil might have on their composition too. She remembers writing a lot of it down to send back to Papa.
But now, she's coming at her.
"Q'uila!" She says as she skids to a halt in front of her. "Help pls!" She holds up her leather archery bracers that are evidently wearing thin from usage. She's also only had this pair for about a month, too. How is she...?
no subject
Date: 2018-04-30 04:15 pm (UTC)"Well met Pinya. How have you been?"
Q'uila very much enjoyed the company of the exuberant Lalafel, she had good humour and interesting conversation, and she admired the woman's ever-improving ability with a bow. She'd also been thankful for the woman's advice in botany, her mother had certainly appreciated the herbs she'd sent home at Pinya's advice.
Q'uila blinks down at the bracers being shoved at her before carefully plucking them out of Pinya's hands and giving them the once over.
"Well, these are well and truely warn out. It'll cost more to fix them than to replace them all together. Luckily, one of the leather-workers owes me a favour."
She waves at Pinya to follow and resumes her walk towards the Leatherworking Guild.

Date: 2018-04-30 06:03 pm (UTC)"Paying for the bracers is no problem, I would simply like them to last more than half a year before I need a new pair!" She laughs as they enter the guild. The smell of tanning solution and hides is a little bit overwhelming, but being over the water wheels at least mitigates some of it, and there's always a breeze moving through the open windows.
Fuck it I'm making Connor the one who owes the favour because it's hilarious
Date: 2018-05-03 10:56 pm (UTC)Walking towards the Guildmaster, she turns to Pinya, "Let me hand these over quickly and then I'll grab him for you."
It doesn't take long to square the transaction away with the Guildmaster, by this point he has come to trust in the quality of the furs and hides she returned with and in no time at all the expected amount of gil now lies nestled in her pouch.
" This way, he normally works at one of the quieter stations in the back."
Leading Pinya around a corner, Q'uila knocks on the door. "Hey! I've come to cash in that favour you owe me! Can I come in?!"
A Favour's a Favour
Date: 2018-05-04 05:24 am (UTC)It didn't take very long for him to clamor onto the bottom rung of Atelier Fen-Yll, and a few weeks harder work to get a the right kind of recognition to start taking lower end commissions of his own. He's not at the point yet of calling it Fen-Yll products without being made to sweat a little, but it's Fen-Yll leather, and he gets to put his own stamp on finished items.
So he's got enough reasons to be pleasant and pleased to see Q'uila at the door to this back-room, his powders and tinctures all boxed away for the day and only the cutters, threads, and his awl out with whatever he's putting together.
"Finally calling it in?" He asks as the Miqo'te woman strides inside, and he doesn't quite see who's following her. "Is it repairs you need, or should I go get my cane?" They had a bit of fun the last time he tagged along after her across the Shroud, didn't they? Not too much, but a bit.
When he sees Pinya, it's already too late.
>:)))))))
Date: 2018-05-04 07:09 am (UTC)After their, shall we say, 'Excursion' to the shroud, Connor had taken to trying to avoid her however he could. She was happy to leave well alone to be honest, not really wanting to create more aggravation.
She'd been sneaking in to see E-Sumi-Yan whenever the other man wasn't in the guild, and he'd been helping her understand that sometimes, the forest just likes to chat, to learn new things about its borders, the difference in energies of other people.
Though the forest was old, it also had a childlike curiosity, and just so happened to take a liking to her.
Not that she'd think that Connor would believe her, so she doesn't try.
"Wow, I can't believe you've agreed to help me! You're such a good person!" She says, completely over the top and stage-dramatic, putting her hands up to her face and feigning surprise.

Date: 2018-05-05 09:37 pm (UTC)Deciding that whatever strange Lala pissing contest that was going on between the two was more trouble than it's worth, she directs her attention back to Connor.
"Anyroad...Connor, I'd like to trade my favour in for a pair of High Quality, leather Archery bracers for my friend Pinya here, she keeps going through them at a ridiculous pace."
:))))
Date: 2018-05-05 10:18 pm (UTC)'Yeah Connor, I have people that think of me as their friend! What are going to do about that your surly sonofabitch?' She thinks, loudly.
Sidequest T-T-Time!
Date: 2018-05-08 05:36 am (UTC)And Pinya's needs aren't... that... unreasonable.
Still, he looks like he just took a spoonful of morbol bile.
"CanIseeyouroldones." Okay no, he can do better than that. Eyes closed, deep breath, and: "Can I please see your old set, so I can get an idea of why they failed you?"
If Pinya gives him the bracers, which he certainly expects she will, the problems are fairly obvious: she's torn the leather in odd places, not even at the seams. Whatever her training and adventuring is leading her into, it's more than simple animal skin can handle.
"So... the nicest hide in the forest won't last much longer than this did," he says, flipping the open bracer a little to see the crafter's mark. Fen-Yll? Yep. "You'll need to upgrade to goatskin, aldgoat specifically: it's got a lot more flexibility and the alumen used to finish it won't let it crack and tear like this." He's looking even more miserable as he says this, then looks at Q'uila.
"The problem is: I don't have enough aldgoat leather here in the shop for your order," and he nods back at the bench where he was working when they arrived. "That's the last of what the Guildmaster gave me, the rest I have to source myself. I'll make them, of course, but you'll have to wait until I can make my way out to Eastern Thanalan or someone comes north next moon to sell what I need. I don't honestly know what alumen is, nevermind why it costs so much."
>:)
Date: 2018-05-08 12:18 pm (UTC)She does, of course, hand him the bracers. She could've got her syndicate to handle it, but blegh, and this meant that she was helping out the economy over in Gridania instead.
"I have no problems sourcing the skins." She says, "Q'ulia, you fancy hunting in my neck of the woods?" She says, ignoring any and all protests that Connor puts out.
Guess which scrub forgot to turn on alerts for this thread?
Date: 2018-05-14 04:01 pm (UTC)Q'uila's tail starts curling in anticipation and she grins at Pinya. "I've not hunted in Thanalan before...Let's do it!"
